3. Tambapanni - This name originated after Prince Vijaya and his 700 followers landed on the west coast of the Island near Puttalam in the 5th century B.C
4. Sinhaladeepa - This is another ancient name acquired by the Island.”Sihaladeepa” means the “island of the Sihala”.
